Gather Around I
This series surrounds the theme of space and puzzles: a synopsis of reinvented and shifting existential planes with a twist of surrealism. I’ve been making paintings on discarded windows and doors in attempts to search for a deluded architectural connection between things I find and my subject matter. I view windows and doors as barriers that separate spaces—interior and exterior—they also are significant items that merge one space to another. As French philosopher Michel Foucault noted in The Order of Things, “by means of structure, what representation provides in a confused and simultaneous form is analyzed and thereby rendered suitable to the linear unwinding of language,” the subject matter of my choice follow the way we perceive what a ‘confused and simultaneous form’ is, yet with the interaction between these forms and their surroundings, they provide the missing puzzle to connect and separate spaces into a staggering maze of architectural arrangements.
